Secrets of the Gem Trade - Second Edition: The Connoissuer’s Guide to Precious Gemstones

Author : Gary Roskin

If you are like me, with a library overflowing with gemological books, then you probably have a short list of your all-time favorite gemstone authors. One of the wonderful authors on that list is Richard W. Wise, well known for his earlier book, The French Blue. Now I have the pleasure to review his latest Secrets of the Gem Trade - Second Edition, The Connoisseur's Guide To Precious Gemstones. Not as swashbuckling as his historical novel, The French Blue, it is still a very enjoyable read. The second edition is a substantial update of the first. There are 127 more pages, 11 new chapters complemented by five new introductory essays and 161 additional images. The chapters on ruby, emerald and spinel have been substantially rewritten.
