The idea of a natural red andesine deposit in Tibet has been a subject of controversy. While it is generally acknowledged that large quantities of diffusion•treated andesines entered the world markets starting about 2002, the idea that there might be a source of natural red andesine in Tibet has polarized the gemological community. This article describes the latest developments, including the author's second visit to the Tibetan deposit.
